An IOA source said the issue regarding the players’ kit sizes had been largely resolved, with only a few kits still remaining to be delivered to the team. The source said the remaining kits would be sent to the players soon. According to the source, the confusion may have occurred because the players required two different types of jerseys.
The Indian players will wear their regular jerseys in the match against Japan on September 22. After that, from the start of the Asian Games on September 28, they will take the field wearing the official jerseys provided to all the players.
Meanwhile, the BCCI has made its own accommodation arrangements for the Indian men’s team in Nagoya after there was a delay in securing hotel accommodation for the players. The Indian women’s cricket team, in contrast, is staying at the accommodation provided by the IOA.
According to a source, there was no issue with the women’s team’s accommodation, but the rooms allocated to the men’s team by the organisers were so small that there was not even enough space to keep the players’ kit bags. There were not many larger hotels available, but with the team due to leave for Japan, the BCCI arranged suitable hotel accommodation for the players itself.
Some athletes who had arrived to participate in the Asian Games also had to wait for hours before being able to enter their rooms. This year, no dedicated athletes’ village has been created for the Asian Games. Instead, athletes are being accommodated on cruise ships, in containers and in hotels.
The Indian women’s team will play Bangladesh in the second semi-final on September 20. The men’s team, meanwhile, will play its only T20I against Japan on September 22 before the Asian Games begin on September 28.
